The purpose of the RMHS Band Parent's Organization is to provide financial and physical support as well as foster an improved educational environment to the instrumental music program involving RMHS students that participate in Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Color Guard and any other group directly tied to the music department at the high school.
Band Camp 2014
In preparation for the 2014-2015 Fall Season, all marching band members participate in Band Camp during the week of August 11, 2014.
Sessions run 8-12, lunch break, 5-9. Your student must be there at least 15 minutes before the time listed, but should be there earlier to help bring equipment down to the field. Stretch block starts at 7:45 and students have to be on the field ready to go at this time.
Unless it is raining, students will be outside for almost all of both the morning and evening sessions. Please be sure you have water, a hat (and sunglasses if wanted), sunscreen, bug spray, music, sneakers, and your instrument. Even if you "don't burn" bring and apply sunscreen because you will burn and will be miserable for the remainder of the week. During water breaks it is nice to be able to eat something small to give you a little more energy. Also eat a good breakfast. Even if you don't normally eat breakfast you are going to want to or at least bring snacks that you can eat during rehearsal. Get a good night's sleep because band camp is demanding and you will need it. It is preferable to wear light colored clothing as this will not absorb as much sun as dark colored clothing. The turf is generally 5-10 degrees warmer than the outside air so again water is essential. We will have jugs of water to refill water bottles during rehearsal but you need to at least have your own water bottle (students were all given one in their band camp bags that they received last Wednesday).Even though you might not need your bug spray for the day, you will definitely need it for the evening rehearsals. Also during the evening it gets cooler so it is recommended that you bring a sweatshirt just in case.
On Monday, students will be given forms for a pizza party on Wednesday. These forms will be due on Tuesday, August 12th along with $5. Also during the week students will be receiving forms for the annual Band Camp Cookout. More information on that will be given during the week.
